Ali Riaz expressed this hope at the beginning of the eighth day of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s discussions with political parties at the Doel Multipurpose Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday.
The vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission said, ‘I am optimistic, we will be able to reach a place, we will be able to go to a place by the third week of July.’

The National Consensus Commission’s vice-chairman, Professor Ali Riaz, has expressed hope that the National Consensus Commission will be able to reach a position by mid-July.
Ali Riaz expressed this hope at the beginning of the eighth day of the second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s talks with political parties at the Doel Multipurpose Hall of the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday.
The vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission said, “I am optimistic that we will be able to reach a place, we will be able to reach a place by the third week of July.”

Today’s meeting is expected to discuss several previously unfinished issues. These include the appointment committee of constitutional and statutory institutions, a bicameral parliament, the election process of the upper house, and the responsibilities and roles of the upper house.
30 political parties including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), and Islamic Movement participated in today’s discussion with the National Consensus Commission. At the beginning of the discussion, everyone stood and observed a minute of silence in memory of the July martyrs.
Highlighting the July Movement, Ali Riaz said, “A year ago, we all united and took to the streets. Today, after a year, we are discussing together to change the state structure. So that we can create an accountable state through changing the state structure. So that the democratic rights of citizens are protected. So that we do not have to be victims of disappearances, murders, and extrajudicial killings. This is your contribution, the contribution of your workers, the contribution of citizens.”
Ali Riaz referred to the fall of the authoritarian government in the July mass uprising as the success of the people. He said, that success of the people cannot just stop at one stage, it must be protected. The way to protect that is to move forward with the reform process.
